With have lots of changes with Valuation Expo this year. We just couldn’t wait so we moved up the date! At the very core is our mission statement: Learn, Network, and Prosper!
This year our Platinum Sponsor ACI is offering 7 hours of FREE USPAP for appraisers who purchased a Valuation Expo full conference pass. Rich Heyn and Dawn Molitor-Gennrich will be the dynamic duo instructors. You must purchase the $25 USPAP manual to attend this session. You must also have the 2012-2013 USPAP Book. If you already own it, great, just bring it with you. If you do not, you can order it through us or at The Appraisal Foundation website. This class will be from 8am-4pm on Tuesday June 18th. Seating is limited so you will need to register by May 31st. If you have any questions please call ACI at 800-234-8727.
In addition to our keynote speakers on Wednesday June 19th we will have Josh Rosner the New York Times bestselling author of “Reckless Endangerment: How Outsized Ambition, Greed, and Corruption Led to Economic Armageddon” speaking at lunch. I have heard him speak before. He is outstanding.
After Lunch on the 19th, we will have our debate format topic “Appraisal Quality”. In this new debate format, we will hear from a stakeholder in each segment of the appraisal profession to discuss how they view appraisal quality and what they are looking for from the industry. The Moderator, Lee Trice had this to say about his session, "I am looking forward to moderating the Appraisal Quality panel at the Expo in Las Vegas. We are using a debate style format where questions will be addressed from our diverse panel representing an AMC, an Appraiser, a Lender, and a State Regulator. We will take questions from the audience and expect a lively and interactive session!"
On Thursday June 20th we will open with our Valuation Visionaries Panel. We will present the award for the 2013 Valuation Visionary to Greg Stephens of Metro-West. Our Valuation Visionary Panel members will discuss the current state of the industry and speak about where they see it headed in the future. After Lunch on the 20th we will have our second debate style topic “Appraisal Reform”. Although they will be covering a different topic, we once again will have an AMC representative, an appraiser, a lender representative and a regulator to offer their opinion on how we should reform the industry. The audience is encouraged to ask questions and comment during this session as well.
Bruce Unangst will be one of the Regulators in this debate style format. He offered us this quote. “State regulators are generally in a reactive mode in crafting and implementing new laws and rules to meet federal mandates and curb real world abuses within their jurisdictions. States are upgrading their focus on individual appraisers and appraisal quality. In addition, unless AMC’s become a partner vs. adversary in this process, they face the prospect of having to comply with fifty different versions of punitive and burdensome regulations. Constructive forums like this may go a long way toward building better understanding among all stakeholders.”
One of the speakers representing appraisers, Dustin Harris, told us, "I am very excited for this year's Valuation Expo in Las Vegas! Appraisal Quality is of utmost importance-especially in this era of ever-shrinking appraiser numbers. As 'The Appraiser Coach,' I am constantly on the pulse of appraisers across the nation and am looking forward to sharing some of the opinions from 'the rank and file' this coming June!"
