What Appraisers Need To Know About Complaints

Monday, September 16, 2013

This Wednesday September 18th, Appraisal Buzz is hosting a live webinar on what appraisers should do if they receive a complaint. This can be a very disturbing experience for appraisers. Elaine Matternas of Intercorp and Ralph Burnham, an attorney specializing in appraisal issues, will be hosting this informative webinar for appraisers. We had a chance to sit down and ask them a few questions about what they will be talking about on Wednesday.

BUZZ: Can you both tell us a little bit about your background in the appraisal industry.

The Panama Canal

Friday, September 6, 2013

The $5.25 Billion widening of the Panama Canal is scheduled to be completed in the Summer of 2015.  This event is already affecting global trade routes.  More importantly, it is affecting various cities in the USA in positive and negative ways.

In our day-to-day appraising it is difficult to see how an event in Panama can affect the value of the property we are appraising today.  Hopefully, we have learned that national and international events routinely alter our local market conditions – e.g. The 2008 Credit Crisis, The Euro Debt Crisis, etc.

A few are Thinker/Doers and far too many are Neither. Let’s take them one at a time (not necessarily in that order).

"Hiring of Trainees to Remain Slow." This is "Shocking News?"

Monday, July 29, 2013

According to a recent survey conducted by the Appraisal Institute, "trainee hiring will remain relatively weak for the next one- to two-years." Um, I hate to disagree with the results of what I am sure is a credible survey, but this is just a gross underestimation. One-to two-years? How about FOREVER unless something drastically changes in our industry?

Mann Overboard

Mann Overboard is honored to be part of the newly redesigned Appraisal Buzz website. For those who have not been following my blog at the prior web location, let me summarize a list of topics I will try to cover over time. Albeit, this is not an all encompassing list and I welcome topic suggestions.

I have the following list of what I call pet projects:
