Title: Certified Real Estate Appraiser
Company: Lundquist Appraisal Company

Why did you become an appraiser?

I had friends in the business and I was looking for a career change to earn more money.

What has been the highlight of your professional career so far?

Building good relationships with clients and establishing myself in various non-lending lines of work. I really enjoy earning business online too. That always feels good.

What piece of advice would you offer young people considering a career in this profession?

Find a good mentor to learn from and connect with other appraisers on a regular basis. Don’t be a Lone Ranger appraiser – that’s bad news on too many levels.

What book would we find on your nightstand right now?

Crazy Love by Francis Chan and SEO Made Simple by Michael Fleischner.

Can you share a funny or unique story about an appraisal you’ve done?

A home owner once wore nothing but Sponge Bob boxers during my entire inspection (yes, it was a quick inspection that day).

Do you have a favorite quote? Why?

“We can do no great things, only small things with great love” Mother Teresa

We often want to “go big” in life, but most of life is really found in the small moments. We have opportunities in these moments to make a difference and have a meaningful life, yet if we only focus on the big stuff, it’s easy to actually miss out on life.

If you could change one thing about the appraisal industry today, what would it be?

I’d like to see a greater sense of collaboration among appraisers. It seems far too easy for appraisers to be disconnected or view each other with suspicion rather than allies, mentors or peers.

Tell us something about yourself that people might not know.

I have a twin brother.

When not at work, you are most likely…

Hanging out with my sons or building something.

What is the best thing about your job?

I enjoy creating my own hours and earning new business.
