The results of the April Foolery Contest are in! We are impressed with the creativity of all the submissions. We are pleased to award free Valuation Expo passes to the authors of the best poem, comic, and video about Valuation Expo or the Appraisal Industry as a whole. We were overwhelmed with the responses from appraisers across the country. We were finally able to narrow it down to one winner in each category. We also wanted to recognize some of the finalists who submitted some great entries.
We received several styles of poems from limericks to haikus, we might have even had a sonnet. Most of the entries were freeform poems. We had a tough time narrowing it down to winner. Below is the winning entry as well as some of the top poem finalists.
WINNING ENTRY "Appraisal Limerick" by Kathryn Brown
There was an appraiser from West Tracks
Who didn't check all of his facts
When his report became due, he sent it right through…
The review bit him in his USPAP!
FINALIST "Life as a Real Estate Appraiser" Poem by Michael Manganaro
I was working in a bar one day
When a friend approached me and asked, "how much do you make?"
I said, "Not enough, do you know of a job that a piece of cake?"
He said, "It's not easy but if you work hard the money is good,
And if its works out you can get out of the hood."
I started appraising and it was fun at first
But came across some tough ones
and that was the worst.
After years it got easier as my knowledge did grow,
Then the market crashed and boy did that blow.
The values came crashing and so did my work flow
Thought this profession was a good one to know.
Then the government stepped in and added new rules
They said, "This will make the industry better for those appraising fools.
There will no longer be pressure by the loan officers we hate
As AMCs will step in and take half your money at the gate."
After awhile things did settled down
and here we are several years later still driving around.
Times were good and times were slow
But we got through it as the Real Estate Appraiser
professional, the public has become to know.
So when your kid asked, "What do you do?"
Just say, "I'm just a mirror of the market when I do my evaluation
So people can get into homes across the nation."
FINALIST "Tenacious Ones" Haiku by Jeanne Giordano-Smith
They must know by now
the twists and turns we've endured
can't throw us askew
We received cartoon submissions from appraisers, lenders, and AMCs. This category got the most entries by far. We were lucky enough to go through some really funny cartoons. Below we have included the winner and some of the cartoon finalists.
